Below we've listed a some questions people ask about cosmetic dentistry. We've also provided some online resources if you'd like more information on the practice of cosmetic dentistry.

Q: Is special training required for cosmetic dentistry?
A: Yes. Dr. O'Neil has completed post-graduate training at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute of Advanced Dental Studies. After intensive training on live patients, he has completed the Advanced Aesthetic Dentistry Program, the Master Aesthetic Dentistry Program and the Neuromuscular Dentistry Program.

Dr. O'Neil is one of the few dentists from Florida who has completed programs that teach these advanced skills. By undergoing this training, he has achieved a clinical ability that few dentists in the country are even aware of.

Q: What is metal-free dentistry?
A: Metal-free dentistry is avoiding the use of metals in your dental restorations. The old metal fillings can weaken and darken a tooth. Non-removable fixed bridges can also be metal-free, thereby eliminating the unsightly black lines near the gum as so often occurs in bridges made with metal.

Patients agree that these metal-free restorations are not only more pleasing to the eye, but also feel natural and comfortable when speaking and chewing.

Q: What are invisible braces?
A: Invisalign® braces use 3D computer technology to design a series of clear trays (aligners). You would have a series of pairs of aligners, so that by the end of your treatment, you teeth would be well-aligned and your bite comfortable. The average total treatment time is 9-15 months. However, not everyone is a candidate for Invisalign. A thorough exam and X-rays will determine your best choice of treatment.

Q: Are cosmetic procedures expensive?
A: Costs vary according to your individual needs. Our office is sensitive to the financial investments some treatment plans require, so we offer easy financing. We can also stage treatment over a period of time in most cases.

Q: Will I have teeth missing between appointments during a cosmetic dental treatment procedure?
A: Some procedures require you to wear temporary teeth while the lab prepares the final restoration. It is rare that patients will ever have to be without a removable temporary or temporarily cemented teeth during any phase of treatment. Some temporary teeth are a plastic replica of what the final result will be. This allows time for you and the doctor to make adjustments and cosmetic changes to give you that perfect smile.

Q: Are cosmetic procedures uncomfortable?
A: We offer several methods of comfort dentistry, one being "One Pill" sedation dentistry. Because Dr. O'Neil has a permit from the State of Florida to administer Conscious Sedation Dentistry, you can be totally relaxed, able to respond and communicate and have more treatment done comfortably at one time. In addition to Conscious Sedation, we offer Nitrous Oxide and IV Sedation, not to mention audio and video sedation, electronic anesthesia, needle-free numbing and a skilled, understanding, nurturing staff.

Q: How long does treatment take?
A: Each procedure and individual need is different, but in most cases, you determine the time the treatment will last. We take every effort to accommodate your needs, whether you want treatment done quickly or done in stages. Some treatment can be done in as little as one visit!

Q: Does insurance cover cosmetic procedures?
A: Sometimes dental insurance companies help with your investment in cosmetic dentistry depending upon the biological status of your teeth. We will do our very best to maximize your dental insurance benefits.
